Accidents

My life is a series of awkward events. They suck at the time.. but after a while they're actually funny. So i'm going to write a few things that happened this summer that felt like the end of the world at the time but are now just a memory. You live. You learn. Now laugh :p

Driving:
Someone scratched her mothers black benz. That same someone covered it with black nail polish. (end of story :p)

Someone else (wa7da thanya hathi :p) was at the university parking lot. She hit the metal barriers and all the rest fell down like dominos.

College:
Walk in wearing a maxi skirt. Then a gust (lol) of wind blows and up goes my skirt to reveal the black leggings I was wearing underneath.. (i'm still recovering from that one)

Started doodling in class. Sketched my philosophy dr screaming. Made him bald and ugly. He saw the picture.

Class ended then I unconsciously started clapping because I was really happy it was over. The room was dead quiet so it was very awkward.

At the hotel:
There was a Starbucks in our hotel downstairs. It was 2 am and I was awake, not used to the time difference, and I wanted Starbucks. Too lazy to get fully dressed I wore the blue thoub 9alaat (prayer thing that covers you head to toe) with the Stitch slippers I got from Disney. I went downstairs thinking no one was up. Sat down, ordered my frap. And then a group of 5aleeji's sat at a table next to me and started to try to figure out where I was from thinking I didn't speak Arabic. The result... Pakistani.

Weddings:
You all know how I feel about weddings. I had to attend one with my mother. I went and sat on one of the many rows of chairs hoping to be unnoticed w kilshay y3adi 3ala 5air. So then a cousin grabs me and pulls me to the dance floor/walk hoping i'll start dancing with her. And I do. But right in the middle of the song I stop in my place and burst out laughing because an Ursella lookalike walked by... and then I kinda fell.

Random lady comes up and hugs me: "3erafteeni?! Ana bint 3amat yaditich flaana!"
Me: *I say absolutely nothing because I can't breathe*
Randomladywhoi'veneverseeninmylife: "binti flana 3erafteeha?"
Never heard of her.
Me: "La 5alty asfa mathkirich"
Randomladywhoi'veneverseeninmylife: "Haw shloun mat3arfeeni?! Kint mawjooda bil mustashfa youm inwiladtay"
....Seriously?

Now that it's all out in the open..
Lesson learned: Yes it may feel like the worst thing ever at the time. And yes you probably did look like a dumbass. But after a while you forget and if you're lucky, you learn to laugh at yourself.

Now, do my lovely readers have any embarrassing stories they want to share?

Give: Blogger To Community

I read about this on Jaqui's blog and it's Q8 Rain's idea of a way to giveback that I thought everyone should take part in.
KACHH are going to be hosting monthly parties for the children with cancer at the NBK hospital. They need 70 gifts a month (can be simple gifts) and the first party will be held next week.
Dear readers, bloggers, and everyone out there. If you think you can help in any way (whether by donating gifts or spreading word) please do so. Just think about what it was like to be a kid and get a present. The excitement, the thrill.. Let's all try to make these kids happy! Cancer is hard enough on adults and the thought of young ones having to worry about things like chemo is wrong. Allah yashfeehum inshallah and thank you Q8 Rain for all that you're doing.

Saudi Women Get Voting Rights

King Abdullah says "women will be allowed to run as candidates in municipal polls and will even have a right to vote."

Saudi women will have the right to join the advisory Shura Council (consultative assembly) as full members and participate in future municipal elections, King Abdullah has said.

The announcement came days before municipal elections where women will be excluded.

"Because we refuse to marginalise women in society in all roles that comply with sharia, we have decided, after deliberation with our senior ulama [clerics] and others ... to involve women in the Shura Council as members, starting from the next term," Abdullah said on Sunday in a speech delivered to the Shura Council.
"Women will be able to run as candidates in the municipal election and will even have a right to vote," Abdullah said.
Restrictions
The decision means women will take part in the elections to be held in four years. Nominations for municipal polls on Thursday are already in.
Women in the ultra-conservative Gulf kingdom are not allowed to drive.
Activists in the country have long called for greater rights for women, who are barred from travelling, working or having medical operations without the permission of a male relative.
More than 5,000 men will compete in Thursday's municipal elections, only the second in Saudi Arabia's history, to fill half the seats in the kingdom's 285 municipal councils. The other half are appointed by the government.
The first elections were held in 2005, but the government extended the existing councils' term for two more years.

More than 60 Saudi intellectuals and activists have called for a boycott of the ballot for excluding women.

I know that not everyone's happy with it. But it's progress! And inshallah with time and effort they'll gain their full rights including driving etc.

Week Of Firsts

The past week has been an interesting, tiring, extraordinary, unforgettable week for me filled with firsts. To be honest it feels like this is what I needed for a long time. Something different. Something new.
My first:
*Week as a university freshman: I start at 10am finish at 7pm three days a week. 3-7 two days a week. My schedule is exhausting. But the college atmosphere itself is really fun! il7amdillah some of my friends are with me in class so it feels more like an outing then college.
*Drive alone: My heart felt like it fell in my stomach the entire time.
*Broke a law: I kinda don't have my license yet.
*Got lost in Kuwait. Alone: I was trying to get home then somehow found myself in Kuwait city which was really scary because... it's Kuwait city. At night.
*Went somewhere without permission: I took a detour after class and instead of going home I went to the Arth ilma3arith place in Mishrif. I was mesmerized by the giant Mcdonalds sign. Then I kinda went tilaigifing around the ma3arith places which wasn't that interesting. It sounds stupid but seriously my parents know about my whereabouts 24/7 it's like they attached a navigation system to me in my sleep or something.
*Sped: At 140 :D One time thing, so not happening again.
*Fainted: I tried this thing lots of people do except instead of walking out like a normal person I fainted which was really embarrassing. Fainting feels like a pass out day. (hardcore tanning)
*Went to a wedding: And actually liked being there!
*Got a package: I've never gotten a package mailed with stamps and all in Kuwait and this one had Ghandi stamps so I spent a good five minutes happy dancing :D

Now tell me, when was the last time you did something for the first time? And what was it?

In Town Cafe-Boycott

Saw this, on Jaqui's blog:
In what universe would advertising something like that be ok? What ever happened to morals or ethics? Ads are supposed to attract customers not repel them. In Town is a cafe/restaraunt not a gym/diet center so that was a completely unnecesary move on their behalf. Bad move.
